About Us

Our Story

Rufiji Explorers was set up by friends who share the love for Africa, in particular Tanzania with its people, diverse culture and its unfenced nature.

As said we still feel the African bush is magic.

Along the Rufiji River the cry of the African Fish-eagle can be heard or at night, sitting around a mesmerising campfire, the background chorus is created by the whoop of the Hyena or the grunts of the Hippo

We have leased our plot from a small village called  Mbuyu Saba (Seven Baobabs). As much as possible we try to buy local produce from this village. Apart from the yearly lease we agreed to share part of our revenue with this village and further support in the form of donations for school and community centre.

We have build this camp with many of the villagers help and since they never saw a camp like this before it didn't take long that we got the nickname

"campu kitcha".....crazy camp

Apart from "The Braai" we have not used any concrete when building our rooms so our carbon footprint is very low. As much as possible we have used natural materials.

We have further leased two more plots from the village to ensure that surrounding nature remains untouched
